Squan Plaza has several events planned as the weather warms starting with an Electric Car Show: An Earth Day Drive-n-Ride event on Sun., April 23 from noon to 3 p.m. It is sponsored by the Manasquan Environmental Commission in Partnership with Circle BMW. There will be a charge point electric car charging stations available. Ride/drive BMW i3s and talk with local environmental groups.
The second event at Squan Plaza is the annual antique, craft, flea market and bake sale which is at the plaza Fri., May 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 732.714.6519 to reserve a table at $30 or$40 with a car.
Surfs Up! Surfing fans will want to head to Belmar for the New Jersey State Surfing ChampionshipsMay 6 and 7. The competition will divide surfers into age groups and amateurs as well as professionals who are also welcome to compete.
The Jersey Shore Running Club is holding its 13th annual Twilight Two-Mile Fun Run/Walk & Party on Sat., Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. T-shirts will be given to all pre-registered runners and walkers. There will be a post run/walk buffet and drink specials at Leggett’s Sand Bar. Register online at jsrc.org or Jerseyrunner.com through Dec. 30. Cost is $28 and registration begins at 3:45 p.m. on race day.
Sketch Your Pet – For a whole new way to bond with your pet, go to Sketch Pets, a weekly event on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Main Street Gallery in Manasquan.
It only takes artist Molly Johnson about 20 minutes for each sketch. Johnson had done an all-pet-related window display for the gallery and it became enormously popular. The sketches cost about $20, but pet owners have the option of whether or not to buy.
For Some Humor in Your Holiday go see the Algonquin Arts Theatre‘s Youth Ensemble in “Elf the Musical, Jr.” It’s based on the beloved holiday film and the Broadway musical of the same name. It’s billed as a hilarious 60 minute fish out of water comedy that follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity. It’s playing Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Dec. 18 at 3 p.m.
Premium tickets are $25 for adults; $23 for seniors and $20 for students. Regular tickets are $20 for adults; $18 for seniors and $15 for students.
The Algonquin Arts Theatre is located on Main Street in Manasquan.
Christmas in Manasquan is Sun., Dec. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. It is free and begins at Manasquan Lighting on Main Street. Kids will be able to take a hayride though the business district with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
As Halloween approaches, run off some of those candy calories at the Spooktacular Almost 4 Mile Fun Run on Sat., Oct. 22. The run starts at Seawatch Beach in Manasquan. The event is a fundraiser for STOMP the Monster which provides financial and other support to cancer patients, their families and caregivers. This year, a 2 mile health walk has been added.
