Designated a State and National Historic District Landmark and Camp Meeting, Ocean Grove is steeped in rich history and cultural roots. In 1869 a prayer group led by Reverend William Osborn, a Methodist preacher, pledged to create a Christian community and Camp Meeting in what is now “Founder’s Park”. Tent revival meetings were held and homes were built during the Victorian era. Ocean Grove thrived and is home to the largest number of Victorian Homes and structures in the entire country. The tradition of summer tent living still survives and currently there are approximately 100 tents still used by families. Rumor has it there is a 10-year wait for people interested in renting a tent! Charm, peaceful living and beauty prevail in Ocean Grove. Year-round activities keep the town and visitors busy when they are not enjoying the gorgeous beaches, inviting shops and wonderful restaurants. Don’t miss: • Twice-yearly flea markets, with more than 400 vendors. • Horse-and-buggy tours of the town. • Catching a show at the circa 1894 Great Auditorium (21 Pilgrim Pathway).
