About Sea Girt, NJ

At the turn of the century, before WWII, Sea Girt was the summer home of politicians and launching venue of presidential campaigns. Small in land-mass, but the first in many accomplishments and benchmarks. Sea Girt is a 1.5 square mile of considerable oceanside charm deeply rooted in history. Featuring a National Guard museum, Sea Girt is also home to the NJ Police Academy and NJ National Guard Training Grounds.

A notable Sea Girt icon, which was built in the early 1900’s, The Sea Girt Lighthouse, was built by the US Government to illuminate the NJ Shore between Sandy Hook and the Barnegat Inlet. It was also the first radio beacon in a US shore installation. Today The Lighthouse Citizen’s Committee is a non-profit that supports the lighthouse for community acitivites. Wreck Pond, a tidal pond watershed (coastal lake) is an environmental wonder bordered by Sea Girt, Spring Lake, Spring Lake Heights and Wall. The Sea Girt Lighthouse was built on the entrance of the Wreck Pond inlet.
